Nov 03, Krystal Hickam rated it really liked it Shelves: I have to say out of all the craft books that I own, this is one of the most unique I have ever ran across.
I have always had a fondness for japanese origami. So when I received this book, I was very excited to learn some new paper folding techniques. And it sure is a doozy, this book is not for the beginner paper folder. It is rather advanced and be prepared to go through quite a bit of paper trying to get some of the folds correct.
This is not a bad thing in anyway, as it provides a heck of a I have to say out of all the craft books that I own, this is one of the most unique I have ever ran across. This is not a bad thing in anyway, as it provides a heck of a challenge and when you do finally get the one youve been working on correct it is a great self accomplishment.
I will say I was rather surprised in the humor that this book carries. Few if any craft books can pull off such silly humor.
It adds a nice layer that keeps you engaged in just past the concept of folding. It is very detailed and gives you nice step by step instructions with plenty of pictures.
I only wish some of the concepts were easier to grasp, it seemed like I failed more than I got right but that only pushes you to try harder. So when you do get one of the harder ones it is much more fun to show off to others, and when they ask how you did it.
You can just say its paper magic, because there is little chance you could explain the process when you barely pulled it off yourself. As a note I would like to thank the author, the publisher and goodreads for giving me the book for free in a first reads giveaway. A ton of unique concepts to paper folding, very silly and spry humor, lots to keep you entertained, nice details and picture instructions, just a fun book to page through to get ideas.
Can be a little frustrating on some of the harder folds, prepare to spend quite a bit on good paper due to mistakes, some of the wording gets lost in itself. Could be a tad bit more precise and a few pages shorter, if only to give you some hope at completing all the different folds.
A four out of five for a crafting book. If your even remotely interesting in origami and like to indulge in the quirkier side of life than this book is for you. Nov 05, Kateri rated it it was amazing. I am a beginner in the world of folding paper and when I saw how many complicated designs there were, I freaked out.
Normally books with advanced folding do not stop to explain what all the origami terms mean and the diagrams are often hard to decipher. This book not only has very easy to read diagrams, it also takes the time to explain what each origami term means and even some modern history of origami as well as the author Origami to Astonish and Amuse by Jeremy Shafer This book is awesome!!!
This book not only has very easy to read diagrams, it also takes the time to explain what each origami term means and even some modern history of origami as well as the author's commentary on each piece. This book is perfect for beginners and expert origami folders alike.
The book starts out simple and gets more complex as you get deeper into the book. Each origami piece is interesting and it is clear that Mr.
Jeremy Shafer spent a lot of time and effort to make each diagram clear and simple, which is much appreciated. The best part about this book is that each and every design is fun to fold and fun to show off to your friends. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in origami and has plenty of patience, because the odds are that the first time you fold something it won't come out perfect.
I give this book a rating of five stars for Mr. Jeremy Shafer's ingenuity, creativity, wit, and thoughtfulness towards the beginning folder. Jan 18, vonblubba rated it it was amazing. Origami per fulminati. Detto cos Origami per fulminati.
This is a very diverse origami book.
There are instructions for many highly complicated models but there also many for beginners. I'd say it's evenly split.
It has a brief tip section about types of paper to use besides regular origami paper. There is also a step-by-step guide in the beginning that is very useful that shows you how to do all the basic folds and bases that are used in the book and origami in general.
There's a great section of wacky models called 'Origami for the Almost Deran This is a very diverse origami book. There's a great section of wacky models called 'Origami for the Almost Deranged' with things that I never even considered could be made with origami and then there's also some "sweeter" things such as heart envelopes and peace signs.
None of the origami requires cutting and it's pretty amazing that they can all be made with one piece of paper. Jun 19, Sara rated it really liked it.
I got this book from a Goodreads Giveaway For being a crafty person I found this book quite fun. This book takes regualar origami and turns it on its head.
There are so many new and unique patterns in this book and gives some fun challenges. I really like the beginning of the book where it goest through a lot of the folds and shows a more detailed step by step guide on how to do them so if you get confused later you can always flip back to the beginning to review a certain fold.
The downside is t I got this book from a Goodreads Giveaway For being a crafty person I found this book quite fun.
The downside is that there are some really complicated ones that take time and patience to complete successfully.
So I guess its all up to how much you want to invest into a certain piece. I suggest this book to anyone who likes origami and is looking for a challenge. Nov 02, Rosibel marked it as books-i-own. This is a awesome book!!

Jun 19, Alex rated it liked it Shelves: What a fun tabletop book! As someone who appreciates origami and made hundreds of cranes as a child, I was drawn to this book. I loved the adult nature of using origami for entrainment.
My only disappointment with this book was with the lack of colored pictures of the finish products. Plus, I would have loved to see a different cover design so that I could use it as a coffee table book. Some of the models are very difficult but there are enough models that are not for someone who is just starting What a fun tabletop book!

Nov 15, Monica rated it really liked it Shelves: With lots of crazy designs that make you giggle like a kid, this book is good for those who like origami and want to go further than traditional cranes and flowers.
Each model is labeled with one of five levels of complexity and, once you get a hang of the unusual instructions, everything is pretty straightforward. I found myself spending hours testing these designs and realized this is a good low-tech solution to rainy afternoons.
Sep 02, Rena rated it really liked it. These models are harder than what my daughter can do so far, but she loves a challenge. Some of them are really funny -- the author has a good sense of humor.
Received from GoodReads. Feb 15, Tammy rated it liked it Shelves: The book provides a wide range of black, white, and blue differentiating front and back patterns with level ratings. Some really neat patterns, but sadly, most of the cool stuff was beyond my intermediate skill level. Nov 05, Courtney rated it it was amazing. Great learning book!
