I would say some bugs or typos here and there are not uncommon, but that book has some severe errors from the little I've seen. I read "Programming in C" the other book on the recommended reading list. I liked how clear and straightforward it was, and some of the topics like structs just "clicked" for me after reading it. Eventually I also realized it had more detail than I needed for some subjects like tables showing every possible formatting flag for printf.
But knowing it had those detailed tables really did come in handy when I got to pset5 and had to refresh my memory on fread and fwrite. I think it's not so much what you read as the fact that you think about the material over a period of several days, so it really sinks in.
In general CS50 seemed to throw almost too many resources out there -- shorts, sections, recommended reading. I think they really just want to make sure that you've always got someplace to go when things get tricky -- so there's always something to keep moving you forward.
I think that's the real function of any programming book -- to get you excited about the new information that you're about to dive into. I've found some typos in programming books -- and non-programming books -- but maybe they're not supposed to be measured by how absolutely perfect they are, but by their more intangible contributions.
I felt like I understood what I was doing after reading "Programming in C," and I really felt more enthusiastic and encouraged after reading the book.
